The name “KATA” is inspired by the martial arts term for a structured form of practice used to build progress and mastery over time. It also playfully nods to the word “terracotta,” referencing the original brickwork of the historic building the space now occupies. Together, these meanings reflect KATA’s commitment to progressive, innovative dining and entertainment while honoring the character and craftsmanship of its historical DC Chinatown roots.
